Changing young lives through play!

At Hi 5 Youth Foundation, we teach basketball excellence at the grassroots level to underprivileged and tribal children. For over 4,000 children every day, basketball is more than just a game—it’s a vehicle for identity, self-confidence, and self-esteem. From urban slums to tribal communities, we help children rewrite their stories by building confidence, discovering their worth, and aspiring for greatness.

Hope Thru Hoops

We teach basketball excellence through our Hope Thru Hoops program, a pioneering initiative designed to empower underprivileged and tribal children. This program is built on a structured curriculum that includes professional coaching, tests, and competitions, making it one of the most systematic grassroots sports development efforts in India. Over this multi-year, multi-level program with rigorous training, children develop not just skills but the discipline and confidence to excel.

This structured approach fosters moments of victory that transform self-esteem and aspirations, especially for tribal children. Many of these children break barriers by continuing their education till the 12th standard and even becoming first-generation college-goers.

By fostering excellence on the court, Hope Thru Hoops transforms basketball into more than just a game—it becomes a powerful catalyst for lasting change.

Pathways to Success

Pathways to Success

At Hi 5, this program bridges the gap between school and employment for underprivileged youth. After completing our Hope Thru Hoops program, which provides educational support and basketball training up to the 10th grade, students face challenges like financial constraints and coping with demanding junior college subjects. To address this, we provide tuition fees, academic support, and counseling while ensuring they continue basketball training through the week.

Our goal is to support them through college until they are job-ready, providing hands-on experience through internships, part-time jobs, and real-world opportunities that actively prepare them for the workforce. Many of these graduates become role models in their communities, breaking barriers and even joining Hi 5 as coaches or in operational roles, building a self-sustaining ecosystem of empowerment.

Hi 5 is one of the largest grassroots programs in the world. Participation in tournaments is a “mega event” every time in Hi 5. People often wonder how difficult it really is to participate in a tournament. Although most schools in the country do it effortlessly.

“The simple and astonishing truth about India and Indian people is that when you go there, and deal with them, your heart always guides you more wisely than your head. There’s nowhere else in the world where that’s quite so true.” I read that passage from Shantaram two months into volunteering with Hi 5 Youth Foundation in Mumbai. Few things I’ve read have ever rang more true.

Testimonials

Among all tribal institutions and ashrams in Maharashtra, only Sri Gadge Maharaj Mission school in Vajreshwari has a fully-functioning basketball court, all thanks to Hi 5 Youth Foundation. They’re keen on finding talent from our tribal school and convinced us that if we give these students the right guidance, they will flourish in the future!

I am incredibly happy that I am finally doing something I think I was meant to do. As a coach, I get the respect from the students, I get to play basketball every day, and even my vision matches with the leadership’s long term vision for Hi 5, what more can I ask? This is like a dream job!

I feel empowered to do something in my life. Before basketball, I hadn’t even thought of what next but now I have a direction. My parents are also supporting me in this and I want to excel at basketball to make them proud.

Student at Vajreshwari

Before Hi 5 Youth Foundation, the children didn't even know what basketball was! Now my students are at the advanced level, some are even playing at district tournaments! Students have now become more focused on their futures & are learning the game rather than wasting their youth on bad habits or bad company. Hats off to Hi 5 for this social change!
