Vajreshwari is Hi5’s first residential tribal school program. The children at this school are shy compared to our students in Mumbai largely because of lack of exposure to an urban city life. But these students have instinctive talent and are able to express that through basketball. This School did not have a basketball court for 6 months and the practice sessions were conducted in indoor halls, Hi5 built a brand-new court with all facilities like floodlights on their campus, exclusively for this school. This was inaugurated it in January 2017. Coach Anup Gupta lives on campus and is also a fine mentor to these kids. In a short span of time, they have learned and developed great basketball skills, which helped them win two trophies in Hi5’s ‘Hoop It Up’ tournament of 2017. Their athletic ability and the hunger to learn this new sport is evident. Hi5 hopes to bring out a lot of talent from this tribal school in the coming future! “In the entirety of Vajreshwari, only this school has lights on at 11 pm in the night!” says coach Anup Gupta!
