With the thrill of a professional franchise-style competition, the Hi 5 Premier League (HPL) tipped off as our first-ever internal staff basketball league.
What started as an idea in the office quickly turned into a full blown tournament on court for 9 days complete with 10 teams in the men’s category and 5 teams in the women’s category.
The tournament began with an auction conducted using notional funds, during which 15 teams were formed. These teams competed against each other over nine days for the championship trophy. The event took place at Motilal Nagar BMC School from 30 May to 8 June.
The Men’s team were divided into 2 groups of 5 teams, competing with each other in 5 league matches in each group succeeding into semi-finals and then finals. The women’s team subsequently competed in 5 league matches succeeding into semi- finals and finals.
From creating their own team names to designing jerseys, the atmosphere was filled with abstract ideas and inspiring conversations. Every member of the team, whether it was the team owner, coach or the player itself was 100% involved in every aspect of the tournament. Every basket dunked or missed brought upon an array of emotions courtside. Every team huddle became a moment to regroup, motivate one another, and plan the next move.
More than just a tournament, the Hi 5 Premier League (HPL) served as a powerful team-building experience helping all to connect and grow together on and off court.
